Tensions Rise as NPP Bigwigs Gather to Back Abronye's Legal Fight

On September 12, 2025, the Accra Circuit Court became a focal point for supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as key party members gathered to show solidarity for Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, the NPP's Bono Region Chair. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, expressed his concerns on Facebook. He criticized the current leadership of the Ghana Police Service under IGP Dampare, comparing it unfavorably to the previous administration. He lamented that while both political parties face scrutiny, it appears only NPP members are prominently featured in police communications, highlighting a perceived imbalance in treatment between the two major political parties.

Similarly, Awal Mohammed, a former PRO of the National Youth Employment Agency, voiced his thoughts on social media regarding the arrest. He suggested that the publicity surrounding Abronye’s case sets a concerning precedent for how the police handle political figures, echoing sentiments that the representation of suspects by the police could be skewed along political lines.
