In a significant move to combat corruption, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Attorney - General and Minister for Justice is preparing a total of 33 cases against the former government officials accused of corrupt practices. This initiative comes in the wake of investigations conducted by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team, an anti-corruption task force reestablished by President John Mahama following his electoral victory in 2024
The ORAL Team was specifically created to target and document instances of corruption that occurred during the previous administration.
Their investigative efforts culminated in a comprehensive report, which was subsequently submitted to the Office of the Attorney-General for legal action.
During a recent address at the Jubilee House, where he met with members of the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption ,
President Mahama provided insights into the progress of these cases. He confirmed that legal proceedings are set to commerce shortly,
underscoring that the government is taking these allegations seriously.
"The ORAL Committee has identified 33distinct cases of misconduct , all of which have been forwarded to the Attorney-General for prosecution" he stated. Furthermore, he revealed that specialist investigative teams have been assembled to go into details surrounding each case.
President Mahama highlighted that many of these investigations have uncovered substantial evidence relating to the acquisition of assets through illicit means. He pointed out that some cases are nearing the prosecution stage, while others have already commenced legal proceedings .The thoroughness of the investigations reflects a strong commitment to ensuring that accountability is upheld across the political spectrum .
