Veteran coach Abdul Karim Zito has been officially named the new Technical Director of Asante Kotoko SC following a significant reshuffle of the club’s technical department. His appointment comes after the dismissal of head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was relieved of his duties due to a series of poor performances in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

At 64 years old, Zito, a former player and coach of the Porcupine Warriors, returns to the club with a dual mandate. He will oversee the club's technical direction while also serving as the interim head coach until a permanent replacement is found.

Known for his tactical intelligence and ability to develop young talent, Zito has a strong track record. He led the Ghana U-20 team (the Black Satellites) to AFCON glory in 2021 and recently guided Dreams FC to victory in the MTN FA Cup in 2023, as well as a historic CAF Confederation Cup semi-final appearance—the best performance by the Dawu-based team at the continental level.

Zito's first major challenge will be a crucial league match against Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium this Sunday, followed by a heated clash against arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium the following weekend.

Kotoko, which was once a title contender, is currently winless in its last four matches and sits fourth on the league table with 47 points. A recent 0-2 defeat to Nations FC sealed the fate of Coach Ogum and prompted the club's decision to restructure.

As part of the technical reshuffle, Prince Yaw Owusu has been appointed as Assistant Coach. With over two decades of experience, Owusu has managed teams across Ghana, Sudan, and the USA, including Medeama SC, Inter Allies, and Khartoum National Club. He has also worked with Ghana’s U-17 and U-20 teams.

Former Kotoko Technical Director Malik Jabir has transitioned to the role of Technical Advisor, focusing on strategic planning and long-term development.

Zito's appointment signals Kotoko’s commitment to bouncing back stronger as they pursue silverware and seek stability both on and off the pitch.
