Mahama Appoints Dr. Baidoo as CEO of KATH After Dismissal of Addai-Mensah

 President Mahama has appointed Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo as the new CEO of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) following the dismissal of Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah.

In a significant administrative shift, President John Dramani Mahama has officially appointed Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. The appointment will take effect on April 30, 2025, marking a pivotal moment for the renowned institution in the Ashanti Region.


Dr. Baidoo's nomination has come on the heels of the dismissal of the previous CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah. While the official letter from the Office of the President did not elaborate on the reasons behind Prof. Addai-Mensah's removal, the sudden change highlights the government's commitment to ensuring effective leadership in Ghana's healthcare sector.


The nomination was confirmed in an official communication from the Office of the President. Signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., the Secretary to the President, the letter states that Dr. Baidoo’s appointment aligns with the provisions of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act 1996 (Act 525), as amended. This legal framework governs the establishment and management of healthcare institutions in the country, ensuring that the leadership transitions within such facilities comply with national health policies.
